Artist Profile : I am 70 years of age, and live in the West Midlands. I have drawn and painted, ever since I can remember. During my teens, I found painting to be a relaxing, if sporadic hobby. However, recovering from surgery in 1981, I needed to exercise, so I went walking, taking a sketch-book with me. From then on I took a more serious approach to art and I joined a local, mutual support group and also read 'how-to' books, in effect teaching myself. I have exhibited in a number of private and group events, in and around the West Midlands. I work mostly in watercolour, and oil, but I do use acrylics and pastels. I delight in painting the landscape and the sea in all moods and in all seasons; especially I like to show mood and atmosphere. Most of my work is 'realism', although slightly impressionistic. This doesn't mean I don't like the abstract, by the way. I am aware that oils and acrylics are now often hung, unframed, but I prefer not to offer watercolours and pastels unframed. However I would consider selling watercolours just mounted. I rarely paint watercolours above 'Half-Imperial' size and obviously, a 'Full-Imperial' watercolour, framed and glazed, would be heavy, unwieldy and costly, if sent by mail. Such a painting would be rolled and tubed. If you have any further questions, please contact me. I will consider commissions for landscapes, seascapes and house portraits. If I think I am unable to produce a competent work to your requirements I will tell you so, immediately. I hope you enjoy my work, and thank you for viewing.
